Our Story
Carved from the Heart of Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe — derived from the Shona word "dzimbadzamabwe", meaning 'house of stone' — is the only country in Africa with large stone deposits suitable for sculpting. The Shona people have been transforming this stone into art for nearly a thousand years.
Each piece from Mangwanani Art Gallery carries that heritage forward. Carved from serpentine stone in colours ranging from deep black and forest green to warm ochre and purple — no two sculptures are alike.
